The “Just Be Yourself” Advice..

Throughout our lives we are advised by friends and loved ones to “just be yourself”?

This is very interesting advice. Firstly, it implies that we have different selves, and that we can be different people. Is the advice to be our true selves?

It raises the question, why wouldn’t we be our true selves? What’s holding us back from being who we truly are?

It also suggests that we could opt be our false self? To be someone we are not. Why would we do that?

Is it fear? Fear to be vulnerable? Fear to be exposed?

“Just be yourself” is good advice. But is letting go of fear that helps us get there.

“Until we let go of our mental images of who we are or who we should be, our vision remains clouded by expectation. But when we let go of everything, open ourselves to any truth, and see the world without fear or judgement, then we are finally able to begin the process of peeling off the shell of false identity that prevents our true self from growing and shining in to the world.”
