Getting Back To Reality

Sometimes, it takes days or even weeks to get back to reality. We get so caught up in our thinking mind we end up living in a world of complete illusions.

Complaining about this and that, him or her. Arguing with ourselves and others. You know exactly what I mean.

In this state, we know on some level that we are in the grip of the egoic mind. Yet we cannot seem to break free from it.

Its important to acknowledge, that the thinking mind is simply wonderful. It allows us to be a creative force and it is one of our most powerful gifts.

But in unawareness, the thinking mind controls us. It keeps us in a world of illusions. It keeps us in a state of fear and anxiety. It keeps us stuck in a traumatic past and fearing for the future.

Through awareness, we take back control and get back to reality. We get back to our inner state of peace and contentment. We get back to our purpose by getting back to the present moment.

“A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts. So, he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions.

By thoughts I mean, specifically, chatter in the skull—perpetual and compulsive repetition of words, of reckoning, and of calculating.

I’m not saying that thinking is bad; like everything else, it’s useful in moderation, a good servant but a bad master.”

Alan Watts
