The root cause of all our internal suffering is our resistance to the present moment.
What does this mean?
Think of a task you had to do lately and you just hated the thought of doing it. Say emptying the dishwasher, as most people really dislike that one.
Is it the task itself that causes you to hate it or is it your internal resistance to having to do it in the first place?
The truth is that it is never the task itself.
Resistance to the present moment is why we procrastinate. It’s why we feel anxious. It’s why we become stressed on a daily basis.
This is all unneccessary suffering.
Instead of resistance, try acceptance.
“Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
Eckhart Tolle
