Presence Vs Productivity

“I have nothing to show for the day.”

“I feel I did nothing.”

“I have so much to do, and I completely wasted the day.”

These are common things we tell ourselves at the end of each day. But when we dig a little deeper and examine them closely, there is very little truth in much of what we tell ourselves.

It is important to be aware of the inner voice trying to create these narratives. The egoic mind wants you to judge yourself and make you believe that you did badly. It needs to keep you in this cycle of negativity as it grapples for your attention.

The ego in you will fight hard and resist your attempts to become present, acceptant and grateful. Why? Because that is the death of ego. It cannot survive in a state of awareness or gratitude. The ego relies on us being completely absorbed in our thoughts and feelings without us being aware.

Practice presence and productivity will look after itself.

“Stop measuring days by degree of productivity and start experiencing them by degree of presence.”

Alan Watts
