Where Do You Spend Your Time?

Where do you spend most of your time? The past, present or future?

At different times, our minds are jumping between all three.

In the past, our minds are either reminiscing on the “good aul times” which can feel super warming or conversely our mind is replaying a traumatic experience over and over again conjuring up past feelings of hurt and sadness.

In the present, we are fully engaged with what we are doing. We don’t feel the time going. We are “in the zone” or “the state of flow” as it is sometimes called. The old saying of “time flies when you are having fun” can be very relevant here.

In the future, our minds play mental movies of imaginary situations that haven’t even happened. Sometimes hoping for the best but more often than not fearing the worst. Our imaginations can run wild here and feelings of worry and anxiety can quickly follow.

When we are unaware, it is easy for our minds to get stuck in the past or future. It’s less easy to stay in the present.

Becoming aware of where your mind spends most of it’s time will bring huge change in your life.

Once you realise the present moment is all there ever is, everything takes on a new perspective.

“If you are depressed you are living in the past.

If you are anxious you are living in the future.

If you are at peace you are living in the present.”

Lao Tzu
