Get Off The Treadmill

Modern working life feels like we are constantly running on a treadmill.

Hard deadlines, a never ending to-do list and difficult bosses throw us into regular states of stress. Our bodies knows to react to this stress by getting our heart beating faster, giving us a burst of energy, increasing our focus and heightening our alertness. This allows us to get some stuff done and our bosses are appeased for a while, but what is the real cost of this stress in our lives?

What is clear is that the treadmill only seems to be getting faster and faster and we are struggling to keep up. Even though we know we are tired and weary, we struggle on, run as hard as we can while creating our own narratives to justify our bad patterns.

But it’s our immune system that suffers. Our mental health that suffers. Our overall health and happiness that suffers.

We have only so much physical, mental and emotional energy to give. All this energy comes from the one pot. If we we don’t replinish that energy, we are going to run out quickly and fall down.

You need to rest. Start with finding a way to quieten the mind. Focus on your breathe. Get out in nature. Go for a walk. Slow down.

Get off the treadmill.
