Go Far Go Together

I keep coming across this African Proverb “If you want to go fast, go alone. if you want to go far, go together.” It’s funny when this happens. A quote or saying keeps popping up in articles you read, programs you watch, on the radio..it almost seems like everywhere you turn, there it is.

So I’m taking this one as a sign that the universe is telling me something. And it fits in perfectly, with something I have been reflecting on lately. And that is intention vs proscrastination. Essentially how does one get into and stay in new habits or golden rituals.

For instance, I know that yoga, meditation, walking in nature and reading keeps me aligned. They are golden rituals for me. Help me stay anchored. But like many, and despite best intentions, I slip into procrastination. Stuck in the incessent stream of thinking.

Perhaps, the clue is in the saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. if you want to go far, go together.” Connecting with others with shared intentions, makes one more accountable. A shared community to give each other energy when we are running low simply works. This is why attending a yoga class provides a collective experience that cannot be matched. Its why meeting a friend for a walk or run puts a total different perspective on exercise. Why a meditation group online or in person helps us connect with our true selves and others.

Sure, time alone is wonderful and there is a balance but inheritantly we are meant to connect and serve others.
