It’s Like Being Drugged

It’s like being drugged. Or constantly drunk. What is? Being stuck in your mind. Overthinking. ‘Unconscious’ or ‘unaware’ as it is sometimes called. Essentially, not being aware of what one is saying or doing.

Gripped to the phone. Constant refreshing. Mind running a thousand miles a minute. Clinging on to any scenario or event. Mental movie after mental movie. And it can be anything. Following your favourite sports team, thinking about a potential family tiff that you are trying to help resolve, or when and how to keep in touch with friends as its been a while. “Will they be disappointed in me if I don’t reach out. I don’t really feel like I have the time or energy this evening but I should go ring one of them. I’m a bad friend.”

Guilt, anxiety, tension. Tension in my shoulders. Wake with a creek in my neck. Feel a cold coming on. “Hope I’m not getting sick.” The inner critic coming in and out. “You havent been exercising. Look at that belly growing. If anyone sees you.”

Self defined and imaginary deadlines. “Go for a run in the morning as soon as you get up.” But I’m stuck in the bed. “You fool. You can’t do anything. How come others can spring up and do it while you can’t. Look at the state of you. Get up and have breakfast.” I grab the phone. Scroll. Refresh. Scroll. Nothing learned. “You fool, you wasted a full hour there.”

Old triggers and patterns crop up again. Diet changes. Stuff I used to eat but now know they don’t agree with me. I ate them anyway. Back in the old habits. Getting involved in silly and pointless debates too. Talking about others, judging others and in some ways resentful. I don’t like it. It’s not who I am.

It’s like been drunk or someone has dropped something into my tea. Aware I’m doing some of these things but just can’t get out of it.

So what exactly is happening when we are in this state?

Dr. Bruce Lipton explains that there are 2 parts to our mind. The subconscious mind and the conscious mind and neuroscience reveals a startling fact.

“We only run our lives with our creative, conscious mind about 5 percent of the time. Ninety-five percent of the time, our life is controlled by the beliefs and habits that are programmed in the subconscious mind. You may hold some positive thoughts but that has very little influence on your life because of the limited amount of time you actually run with your conscious mind.”

Dr. Bruce Lipton

The problem is the majority of these programs which we ‘downloaded’ as a child into our subconscious mind are bad, self-destructive programs which leads to the patterns of self judgment, self-criticism and self-sabotage.

Consciousness is the way out and a pathway to re-programing the subconscious mind for a happier and healthier life. Check this out to learn more: https://www.brucelipton.com/there-way-change-subconscious-patterns/
