Falling off the wagon. Getting out of sync. Scrambled. Off routine.
One big night out can do that. Its hard to get back. The false self (the ego) takes over.
“I’m tired. I need sleep. Stomach isn’t right. Great craic but not drinking again. Buzz was good though…..[2 days later] I haven’t exercised now in a couple of days. Was doing so well. I need to do something to sweat it out. To lift the cloud. But I haven’t the energy to do anything. So tired.”
“[7 days later] Another week gone by now..Maybe tomorrow. Diet gone out the window. Craving a take away. Any chocolate or crisps in the press. Feeling like something bad”.
“Why am I stressed all of a sudden. Had none of this anxiety for ages. What did I say the last night? Hope I didnt make an ass of myself. Can’t remember much. Staying off it for a while now. Not even sleeping properly. How do I get out of the next one? Really don’t want to feel like this again.”
It happens to us all. This is simply the ego in us that is now running the show. We have become unaligned. Stuck in a subconscious state. Unneccessary suffering. And it is all caused by what? Thought…The aftermath of alcohol intake has helped trigger an unconscious state that we are now struggling to come out of.
So how does one get out of this state? By taking a breathe. In and out. Concentrate fully on the flow of air entering and exiting the body. Take another breathe. Continue concentrating on your breathe. Now choose 1 thing you are grateful for today. Keep this in your mind while you continue concentrating on your breathing. In and out. In and out.
It is only through consciousness and entering presence that we can become aligned again. To see things as they really are. To alleviate that suffering. And we enter presence through our breathe. You see you cannot fully concentrate on your breathe and think at the same time. That’s the beauty. Thats why it works. This is how we can knock off the noise. Which raises another question..
Are you addicted to the noise? Do you enjoy the suffering?
Peace and content is there for those who want it. And it starts with a breathe.
